Peter Slattery

  • Peter Slattery is a Researcher at MIT FutureTech, where he leads research to explore i) the risks from artificial intelligence, ii) their importance, and iii) how organizations are responding to these risks. He leads the AI Risk Repository project. He is experienced with a broad range of qualitative and quantitative research techniques, including literature reviews, conceptual papers, interviews, experiments, surveys, and structural equation modelling. He received his PhD in Information Systems from the University of New South Wales in Australia.

  • We’re especially interested in mentoring a fellow who can help with:

    • Developing a control taxonomy for AI risk mitigations by conducting a literature synthesis related to mitigation strategies and governance interventions.

  • Ideal candidates would have:

    • Strong experience in literature review and qualitative synthesis.

    • Familiarity with AI governance or adjacent policy/technical fields.

    • A PhD (or equivalent experience) is preferred (but not essential)

    • U.S. work authorization is a significant plus due to potential access needs.

    Evaluation Format Preference
We’d prefer to give a short test task to 2–3 final candidates before a short final interview. The task would include:

    1. Extracting actions from an existing mitigation taxonomy into a structured database.

    2. Coding the extracted items using a draft control taxonomy.

Candidates are welcome to use LLMs or tooling to assist, but they must be able to justify and stand behind their outputs and reasoning.
