Barath is a Member of the Frontier Policy team at Google DeepMind. Previously, he was the youngest-ever Senior Fellow at CSIS, working at the crossroads of AI, compute, and geopolitics. He began his career in the Singapore Government as a foreign service officer, trade negotiator, and AI standards lead. His writings and commentary have been featured in the NYT, BBC, WSJ, Politico, The Economist, Foreign Policy, Forbes, among others.

Barath’s primary research interest is US-China compute governance. However, he is also interested in robotics-AI policies, a new research area at Google DeepMind. Candidates should indicate their specific interest in either topic in the application form.
