Charles co-founded Meridian Labs in 2025 to advance the public understanding of AI systems through comprehensive evaluation tools and research. Prior to founding Meridian, Charles was a Technology and Security Policy Fellow at the RAND Corporation, where he helped develop Inspect AI.

Previously, Charles worked at Posit, PBC, where he created the Quarto scientific publishing system. Charles also founded Lose It! co-founded Onfolio, and was a VP of Engineering at Allaire Corp.
We make open source technology for evaluating, scanning, and auditing frontier models. We're looking for candidates with an interest in:

- Improving the quality and robustness of existing capability evaluations (for example, improving our Inspect native implementation of OSWorld).
- Implement new Inspect native implementations of important evaluations (for example, from frontier model model cards where not currently supported).
- Contributing to our open source software (Inspect AI, Scout, Petri, or other packages)
Successful candidates will have a strong background in software engineering, especially Python development.
